Need a clever decorating idea for the 4th of July?

We have moved down the street
to bigger space east of
Laurelwood Public House and Brewery!
Need a Clever Decorating Idea for the 4th of July?
The Fourth of July is just around the corner so why not try  out one of  these quick and easy decorating ideas to show your patriotic party sense.

1. Make large bouquets of red, white, and blue balloons. Tie them together with ribbon streamers.

2. Visit Distinctively Home and pick up our patriotic "God Bless America" hanging sign.

3. Tie red striped fabric around a chair. Tie blue fabric in a bow around red striped fabric for accent on the back of the chair.

4. Red, white, and blue sprinkles are not just for ice cream. Pour a layer of each color in a clear glass vase then place a candle inside for patriotic lighting.

5. Cover various size tin cans with red, white, and blue gift wrap or scrapbook paper.  Place flowers, food, or utensils in them for a festive buffet table.

Add an element of surprise to spruce up a room!

Change Your Decorating Style in the Middle of a Room

Add an Element of Surprise in Each Space

A punch of color or texture would add a lot to this stark room.

To avoid a boring look, change your decorating style in the middle of a room. Consider adding one element of surprise in each space.

Sometimes you walk into a room that is perfectly decorated, only to get the feeling that things are just "too perfect." Sometimes all that's needed is a little surprise--something that doesn't really belong but adds a touch of whimsy.

In this type of situation, I like to add the unexpected.

In a perfectly traditional room with matching sofas, matching end tables, matching side chairs, and matching lamps, consider adding something ultra modern. A modern painting, a minimalist chair or table, or a contemporary sculpture could be just what's needed to jolt your eye away from the boring.
In a very contemporary interior with stark white walls, black furniture, sleek and smooth surfaces, try a textured area rug in fuscia, add a bold-patterned pillow on a chair, place a pair of classic silver candlesticks and colored candles or a traditional floral arrangement on a dining room table. Just something enough to break the tedious look of everything matching.
Try it! You'll probably like it.

2013 Color Trends

2013 colors are sophisticated options that invite you to embrace a neutral pallet For Your Home.  Pantone predicts that neutrals will make a major comeback during the next design cycle.  The bright, shocking colors of the last couple seasons will give away to a more soothing backdrop for this year’s trendy accessories, lighting and furniture.  Neutrals need not be boring, or colorless.  Focal points are not always based on color.  Folded and sculptural shapes, intriguing textures, luminous finishes and an emphasis on nature inspired motifs such as feathers create opportunities for focal statements that transcend even reliance on color.

Color Movements

  • Lighter blues and navy increase in importance.
  • Leathery brown becomes more important as a basic.
  • Olive becomes stronger.
  • Purple is still evident.
  • Brights have a singular status for winter.
  • Camel evolves into cappuccino and creamy hues.
  • Yellows become softer and less sporty.
  • Reds are becoming more orange.
  • Traditional winter darks and berry colors are more mid-toned and less blackened.
